Twenty Four Weeks on Thanksgiving Day

Well, I had a doctor’s appointment on Monday.

I gained another two pounds. That puts me up 12lbs. I'm getting a little nervous about the weight gain because I know I still have some big weight gaining months ahead of me. Oh well, we will see what happens. I've never been too terribly body conscious, so I'm just gonna go with the flow. I expect to breastfeed, so hopefully that will speed up the weight loss.

Jack’s heartbeat was in the 130’s. It is always so fun to hear it. While the nurse was using the doppler, Jack started kicking at the Doppler. I don’t think he likes it very much.

I am still measuring at 27 weeks, so I must have gone through a major growth spurt over the last month.

Not much new to report. I’m doing alright, my rheumatoid arthritis has really started to flare up the past few days, Hopefully, it will calm back down soon. Having arthritic knees really makes me do the pregnant waddle walk.

Jack seems to be on a semi-regular sleeping pattern. He is usually awake and kicking between 9-11am and then I feel him again from about 7-10pm.

Every time Bailey says goodbye to me or goodnight, she has gotten in the habit of kissing my belly and telling her little brother goodbye. It melts my heart. She has wanted a baby brother or sister for so long. Justin has also started to rub my belly pretty regularly. Mostly, it’s to poke fun at me for getting so huge. I can tell he is really getting excited about having a son. Yesterday, he was telling me a story about his dad mowing the yard and Justin following right behind him with his little plastic toy mower. I think he is looking forward to making memories with his son.

I’m really excited about Thanksgiving this year. We are having tons of family over for Thanksgiving so this year we are making a Turkey and a Ham. I’m excited I don’t have to wait until Christmas for Ham and mom’s “Enterprise” Potatoes. Yummm…My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Is it Lunchtime yet? Today the Director of the Economic Development Commission is retiring. The whole office is gathering at lunchtime for Pizza and cake in honor of him.

I will try to post some pictures soon….As soon as we find my crappy camera.

Unscheduled Doctor's Appointment

Well, yesterday did not go as expected.

I woke up, went to work and all was well. Until about 8:30am. I began having severe cramping right under my rib cage. The cramps were constant. I decided to leave work at about 10am...on my way home, I phoned the doctor. They told me to come in and the would work me in. I went by and picked up Justin from the house. After an hour waiting in the crowded lobby of the doctor's office, it was finally our turn.

First, they weighed me. I was 4lbs up from our last appointment 2 weeks ago. Blood pressure, still low, but fine.

Then, we go into the room and they pull out the Doppler to find Jack's heartbeat. It was very strong and approximately 150bpm. Everything was looking good.

Finally, the doctor comes in and starts the exam. He pulls out his tape measure. I measured 27 cm. WHAT!?!? At this stage of pregnancy, your uterus measurements are supposed to correlate with how many weeks pregnant you are. I am only 21.5 weeks pregnant. At my last appointment., 2 weeks ago, I measured right on track at 20 weeks. Now I am measuring 27 weeks?! That combined with my weight gain of 4lbs in two weeks, needless to say that Jack and I have gone through a major growth spurt. The doctor said that I was having major growing pains and told me to go home and rest.

We have our regularly scheduled appointment in 2 weeks. The doctor wants to see what I measure at that point.

So, everything with Jack and I are fine. Justin keeps teasing me that it's possible that he was the runt of his birth family. I keep reminding him that it is not helpful to share that kind of information and to keep his mouth firmly shut. :)

A Great Weekend!

Well, I am officially 20 weeks and a few days. I'm on the downhill side now. Last week we had a doctor's appointment and everything went well. I've only gained 6lbs. I am totally amazed by that. My belly is certainly Large(ish)...compared to my pre-pregnancy body.

Yesterday was a great day. My parents and Justin and I went to San Antonio. I got many wonderful maternity clothes! Thanks Mom and Gary!! We went to Destination Maternity which is a Maternity Superstore that houses Motherhood, Mimi and A Pea in the Pod. I compare it to Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic for the pregnant! I started my shopping at the Motherhood section. Yes, their clothes are certainly less expensive, but do they have to be the most ill-fitting, unflattering, obnoxious printed clothes?!?! I did get a pair of jeans and a pair of black work pants from that section, but all the shirts looked horrible on me! Thankfully, we still had other sections of the store to browse. I ended up with many beautiful pieces of clothes that will hopefully see me through the end of my pregnancy.

After that, we went to Babies R Us to register. Whew...it was exhausting!! Our plan was to also register at Target, but by the time we were done a BRU, my brain was on Baby-Gear-Overload and we felt like we needed to go back a different day. I am so frustrated by the baby boy bedding selection. My husband and I can't agree which one to go with and he of course tells me to go with my favorite. It's a very sweet gesture, and I appreciate his willingness to let me choose what I want, but I feel like it is OUR baby and we should agree on the bedding. Am I wrong? Maybe its no big deal to him, just as a fiance would not be picky about wedding napkins. I don't know. I know in the scheme of things baby bedding is not a big deal. I'm so glad we only disagree about the little stuff and not the major child rearing issues. I'm still holding out that possibly there is one baby bedding website with designs and patterns I haven't seen and perhaps my husband and I will fall mutually in love with the same design. I will give it one more month...and then if not, I suppose it will be time to flip a coin....

Finally, the most exciting news of all. Last night I was sitting on the couch folding laundry while Justin was helping Elizabeth with homework and Baby Jack was kicking like crazy. So, I called Justin and Bailey over to the couch and I put Justin's hand where I last felt a kick. Jack kicked again and Justin was able to feel his son kick for the first time! Then I put Elizabeth's hand on my tummy and she too, was able to feel him kicking! It was a very exciting family time for us last night. It brought tears to my eyes. I love my Husband, Daughter and baby Jack so much. I can't wait to officially be a family of four!!
